If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others, why wouldn’t we?
Back in February, Olivia and I took a road trip out to Lancefield, Victoria, to visit Edgar’s Mission; a non-profit farm sanctuary for rescued animals, with a mission for kindness. We were taken on a guided tour around just a small part of the vast 153 acre site, to meet some of the animals and learn more about their stories.
The majority of the residents at Edgar’s Mission were originally used as food or production animals, which are excluded from the protection of the animal welfare legislation in this country. This means that had they not been rescued, they would have been subjected (as many already had been) to lives of pain and torture, before their cruel and unnecessary deaths. Our tour guide was insightful and honest about the harsh reality of the industries the animals were saved from, which is why farm sanctuaries like this one are so vitally important.
Of course, it wasn’t all doom and gloom, as these animals were fortunate enough to find themselves there with the chance at a new, happy life surrounded by compassionate beings who treat them as equals. We got to play with the cheekiest little baby goats, who were quite happy to jump all over us and gave my hair a good chew, feed some chickens, snuggle with sheep and get down in the mud with the biggest pigs I’ve ever seen. All of the animals were so gentle and friendly, it made me question just why humans slaughter and exploit some of the most innocent creatures on our planet?
Places like Edgar’s Mission could not continue to run without the generosity of the public. The guided tour was free but we stocked up on goodies at the gift shop to help spread the word and make our donation to a worthy cause. If you’re in Melbourne, or the surrounding areas I highly recommend a visit, and even if you can’t make it in person, just the smallest donation could help them continue their life-changing work with these amazing animals.

This place looks absolutely wonderful! I love places like this especially when they inform and educate, it baffles me that people are so desensitised to the horrors of the meat industry that they actually think that it’s okay to hurt these animals for their own gain. This place looks so happy and those animals are adorable!
